HELSINKI

To say the truth this city has not impressed us. After our native St.-Petersburg it has seemed to us ordinary enough. Nevertheless there is some stuff that we could find.

This is a vault of the Helsinki Cathedral (Helsingin tuomiokirkko or Suurkirkko). It is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki. The church was originally built as a tribute to the Grand Duke, Nicholas I, the Tsar of Russia and until the independence of Finland in 1917, it was called St. Nicholas' Church. That’s why it seems so "Russian". The temple is located in the centre of Helsinki, Unioninkatu 29.

This is the bas-relief of the Jehovah's name under the entry on the back side of the Helsinki Cathedral.

The building with this bas-relief is situated quite the reverse of the Helsinki Cathedral. This is the National Library of Finland (Kansalliskirjasto) - Unioninkatu 36.

Splendid demons, aren’t they? The second one is definitely succubus. And the fourth one isn’t a kind of frog, if you want, but the Deep One, as this creature was described by Lovecraft. This building is the House of Agronomists (Agronomitalo) - Pohjoinen Makasiinikatu 6.

Well, if we have got it right, the building with the Magen David's row on the front is The Guest Home of Helsinki (Helsingin Vieraskoti) - Albertinkatu 4 (Pursimiehenkatu 10). We don't know how the Magen David has to do with guest home.

Just an eagle. A couple of these birds of prey guards the front access door of the building - Unioninkatu 12 (Eteläinen Makasiinikatu 4).
